ADENANTHOS. Woollybush. Australia. Interesting shrubs and small trees of the protea family, much resembling the related grevilleas. The leaves are highly variable, though usually hairy. Their odd tubular blossoms, sometimes resembling those of Anigozanthos, can be quite showy. Sun, well drained soil, occasional deep watering when established. The following should be hardy to 20-25oF.

meisneri. A 3-6', mounding shrub. The stems are thickly set with soft, narrowly dissected leaves recalling those of Grevillea thelemanniana. These are conspicuously hairy when young. In late winter it is decorated by small clusters of reddish purple blossoms, 1" or more long, at the shoot tips.

sericea. A sturdy shrub or small tree, in this case probably in the 6-10' range. It has dissected, strikingly silky leaves and bright red blossoms at various times of the year.
