ALCHEMILLA. Lady’s mantle. Alchemilla is a group totaling around 300 species, in the rose family. It is widespread in the temperate world, particularly around the Northern Hemisphere. The genus is composed of mostly clumping perennials with roundish, lobed leaves and clusters of small petal-less flowers which give little indication of their family relationships. Several are pleasant border perennials, useful for their hummocks of clean, attractive leaves. They thrive in a variety of non-alkaline soils, in sun or light shade, with moderate to regular watering. The following is hardy to below 0oF.

mollis. This is one of the most popular of the alchemillas for its tidy clumps and shallowly lobed, toothed, 2-6" leaves. The leaves are silky and soft grey-green in color. Large clusters of bright greenish yellow flowers are elevated on stems up to 3’ high (usually less) in summer. It self-seeds in moist spots and can cover broad areas, making it either useful or a nuisance, according to your intentions.
