ALONSOA warscewiczii. Peru. This improbable name is attached to a delightful little plant. It is a bushy perennial of about 2', with reddish stems and bright green, nearly heart shaped leaves. In summer and fall it carries a profusion of irregular, flat-faced scarlet blossoms on erect stems. Firestone Jewels is a hybrid seed strain considerably extending the color range of the species itself. Flower colors include reds, oranges, pinks and pure white. Sun or light shade, most soils, moderate watering. Hardy to 20oF or less.
