CROTALARIA agatiflora. Canary bird bush. Southern Africa. One of the oddest and most striking of the pea-shrubs. Each season it sends up several heavy, light green stems from a thickened base, each stem reaching a height of 6 or more. Loosely set along the stems are 3-parted leaves of soft grey green. Throughout the warm season (nearly year-round in mild climates) it is decorated with large wands of 2" beak shaped blossoms, colored bright chartreuse overall with nearly black markings. Sun, most soils, moderate watering. Hardy to 20oF or less, resprouting after apparently lethal damage to the tops.
