DICTAMNUS albus (D. fraxinella). Gas plant. Eastern Europe, Asia. A flowering perennial with several unique features. It forms a tough, long-lived root crown from which several shoots spring each season, growing erect to about 2’. The lower leaves are divided into several broad dark green leaflets with the same leathery texture as the hellebores and exuding an aromatic oil. Each shoot develops a torch of deep pink to white, spidery 1-2" blossoms in summer, the show lasting several weeks. Sun, most soils, moderate to occasional watering. Hardy to 0^oF or less.
