ENGELMANNIA pinnatifida. Texas. Engelmann daisy. Generous is the word which comes to mind for this showy southwestern daisy. It slowly forms sizeable basal clumps, with grey-green leaves up to 6" long. The leaves are cut, though not to the midrib, in a feather-like pattern. It issues a more or less continuous parade of 2-3 flowering stems from late spring to fall. The stems are branched and carry open sprays of large bright yellow daisies with darker centers. This has become one of my favorite plants for banks and other sunny spots. It thrives in many soils, with moderate to occasional watering. Hardy to below 0oF.
