GOMPHOSTIGMA virgatum. This is an interesting buddleia ally from South Africa, looking very little like the buddleias themselves. It produces many slender, arching shoots from the base, each one rising (in this material) to 3-4’. The stems are noticeably grey, and they are closely lined by pairs of very narrow, pointed 1/2" leaves, similarly grey on their undersides. It flowers nearly throughout the growing season as each shoot matures, carrying narrow clusters of small white flowers at the shoot tips. This is an interesting broom-like shrub for sunny spots in the garden. It needs little pruning or other care and seems nearly free of problems with pests and disease. Reasonably well drained soil, moderate to occasional watering. Hardy to 20oF. or less.
