MOLINIA caerulea. Moor grass. An elegant bunchgrass, making substantial fountains, up to 2’ high. Individual leaves are up to 1/2” broad and bright green in color. In summer narrow wands of purplish flowers rise to 4-5’, or even more in some cases. The seed heads change to reddish tan as they age. ‘Variegata’ is a selected clone of smaller size, with 12-18” leaves margined in pale yellow and flower stems usually under 3’ tall. The whole plant disappears in winter. Sun, acid to neutral soil, regular watering. Probably hardy to 0oF or less.
