HEPTACODIUM
miconioides. China. An interesting small tree of the honeysuckle family.
It holds its branches nearly erect, forming a narrow canopy. Lining the younger
stems are pointed-oval, conspicuously three-veined leaves up to 6" long.
In summer it produces paired clusters of small white fragrant flowers at the
shoot tips. The sepals persist and become purplish red and showy as the small
seed capsules develop. Sun or light shade, well drained non-alkaline soil, constant
moisture. Hardy to below 0oF.
