HUNNEMANNIA fumariifolia. Mexico. A short-lived but extremely showy perennial poppy, somewhat resembling a small matilija poppy (Romneya). It has a branched, woody base from which come many blue green stems lined by narrowly divided leaves of the same color, up to 4" long. It flowers more or less continually from late spring to fall, carrying silky, golden yellow 3" flowers with some of the crepe-paper crinkling of the romneyas. At their centers are dense clusters of darker stamens. It will self-seed and may be treated as a renewable annual in more severe climates. Sun, well drained soils, moderate to occasional watering. Hardy to around 20oF.
