MILLETTIA reticulata. China and Taiwan. When someone refers to an “evergreen wisteria”, this is usually the plant in question. It is usually less massive than the wisterias but still quite large. The stems are clothed with large, bright green leaves, each divided into several broad 1-3" leaflets. Small purple to pink flowers with a resinous fragrance (or none) are carried in dense, branched clusters during late summer and fall. It thrives in sun and most soils, with regular watering. Allegedly hardy to 10oF or less, though evergreen only in mild climates.
