REHMANNIA
elata (often sold as R. angulata). China. A vigorous
perennial closely related to the foxgloves. It forms tight basal rosettes and
spreads slowly by means of underground rhizomes. The 6" jaggedly toothed,
often red tinged leaves are only moderately attractive. However, 1½' to
3' blooming stems arise continually from late spring to fall, each displaying
several 3" bells, flared at the face and marked with purple and yellow
within. Flowers of the typical form are pink to mauve overall. We offer an exceptionally
large- and dark flowered strain derived from crosses by Patrick Worley, as well
as an unnamed, white flowered selection. Sun or part shade, most soils, regular
watering. Hardy to around 15oF.
