TULBAGHIA
violacea. Society garlic. South Africa. An evergreen, clumping perennial
related to true garlic (Allium) but grown for ornament. It has erect
grasslike, bluish green leaves, smelling of garlic when bruised, and displays
a nearly perpetual succession of clustered lavender pink blossoms on slender
1' stems. The cultivar Silver Lace is interesting for its
dwarfer habit and cream-margined leaves. Good plants for containers and rock
gardens. Sun, well drained soil, moderate watering. Hardy to 20oF
or below, though the leaves are damaged by frost.
