ZALUZIANSKYA katherinae. Surely one of our top ten contenders for “most wonderful name” (it gets much easier to pronounce after a couple of tries), this is also a thoroughly delightful perennial from South Africa. It is bushy and somewhat spreading in habit, growing about 1-2' tall and perhaps 3-4' broad. It has paired, dark green leaves with pointed lobes. Clusters of phlox-like blossoms decorate the plant much of the year, though most heavily in summer. Each has a long, slender tube and spreading “face” with notched segments, deep pink without and white within. Sun or light shade near the coast; probably best with some shading inland. Well drained soil, moderate watering. Hardy to around 20oF.
