CALOSTEMMA purpureum. An interesting, easily grown Amaryllis ally from Australia. The bulbs produce offsets freely and can eventually make dense colonies. The leaves are narrowly strap shaped and arching, 1-2' long. In summer umbrella shaped clusters of 1/2" funnel shaped, reddish purple blossoms rise above the foliage on naked stalks. Sun or light shade near the coast, part shade inland, most soils, moderate watering. Probably hardy to 20-25oF.
