CLETHRA alnifolia. Summersweet. Eastern U.S. A neat deciduous shrub, slowly clumping from the base to form small thickets. The branches are nearly erect, growing usually 6-10’ tall, with dark green, rather thin textured oval leaves. For several weeks in late summer the plant is massed with upright clusters of wonderfully fragrant, small white blossoms. Sun, reasonably well drained, acid soil, moderate watering. Hardy to below 0oF.
