DOLICHOS lablab (Lablab purpureus). Hyacinth bean. Widespread in the tropics. A rampant vine, generally treated as an annual because of its tenderness to cold but easily renewable by seed. The leaves are quite large, each divided into three broad, pointed leaflets. In this form they are colored dark green with a slight reddish tinge above, reddish purple beneath. It makes a spectacular show in summer and fall, with several-flowered clusters of white and purple pea-flowers. Sun or light shade, most, though preferably rich, soils, moderate watering. Hardy to 25-30oF.
