HOMERIA collina. One of the cheeriest of the South African bulbs (in this case, corms). It quickly forms dense clumps. Sturdy narrow leaves rise about 1’ from the corms in fall, while the branched flower stems, a little taller than the leaves, appear in spring. Star shaped blossoms, 2" or more across, open in succession for several weeks in spring and early summer. They are colored bright orange in the variety aurantiaca and pale yellow in the variety ochroleuca. Sun, most soils, moderate watering while in growth and bloom, little or none after the leaves wither in summer. Hardy to 15oF or less.
