HYMENOXYS. Western U.S. to South America. A genus of showy annual and perennial daisies, often suitable for the rock garden. They form compact clumps of shoots, with variously shaped, sometimes divided leaves. What most distinguishes them are their large, many-rayed, usually gold to lemon yellow flower heads with darker centers, borne above the foliage. They require sun and well drained soil but only a minimum of irrigation. The following are hardy to below 0oF.

grandiflora (Tetraneuris grandiflora). A dense hummock with white-hairy, narrowly divided leaves. The flowering stalks are up to 8" high and display bright yellow daisies up to 3" broad.

scaposa (Tetraneuris scaposa). In the current form, a very tight cushion with many slender stems and crowded, narrow 2" leaves. The many flower heads are about an inch across and bright yellow with gold centers.
