LAMIASTRUM (Lamium) galeobdolon. Yellow archangel. Europe and West Asia. A vigorous, trailing perennial closely related to Lamium and placed in and out of that genus at various times. It produces many slender stems, each up to 2 long, from a narrow base. Lining these are pairs of broadly oval, silver-patterned leaves, 1-2" long. Irregular bright yellow flowers, marked with white, are clustered at the shoot tips in summer. Hermans Pride is distinguished by short stems and narrower, toothed leaves with brighter, more irregular silver variegation. Both forms are ideal for brightening shady nooks. The typical form is also attractive in hanging baskets. Part shade, most soils, regular watering. Hardy to around 0oF.
