MOLINIA caerulea. Moor grass. An elegant bunchgrass, making substantial fountains, up to 2 high. Individual leaves are up to 1/2 broad and bright green in color. In summer narrow wands of purplish flowers rise to 4-5, or even more in some cases. The seed heads change to reddish tan as they age. Variegata is a selected clone of smaller size, with 12-18 leaves margined in pale yellow and flower stems usually under 3 tall. The whole plant disappears in winter. Sun, acid to neutral soil, regular watering. Probably hardy to 0oF or less.
