URCEOLINA urceolata. Part of the amazing, but little known, palette of amaryllis allies native to South America. It grows from smallish, clumping bulbs, each of which produces one or two broad, dark green leaves up to 1' long each season. In summer it displays umbrella shaped clusters of pendant 2" blossoms, colored orange with green tips. A fine container subject, suitable for the open garden along the coast. Sun or light shade, well drained soil. Keep it moist during active growth (the plants actually use very little water). Hardy to 25oF or less.
