CNEORUM tricoccon. Spurge-olive. Mediterranean region. An odd little shrub, of which I’ve grown rather fond over the years. It is so distinctive as to be assigned to its own family (Cneoraceae). It is nearly round, evergreen, and  well covered by narrow 1-2" leaves. The leaves are deep green in color and shiny in surface. In our coastal climate it flowers during most of the growing season, though most heavily in summer, carrying its ½” yellow flowers in small clusters. These are quickly followed by small, showy fruits which turn from green to bright red, finally to near-black. It is easily grown in a sunny spot, tolerating many soils, with moderate to occasional watering. Hardy to 20oF. or less.
