EDRAIANTHUS. Mediterranean to eastern Europe. This is a group of campanula allies admired by rock gardeners but almost unknown to the rest of us, though some are both beautiful and easily grown. They make small mats or hummocks, with crowded, narrow leaves and relatively large, tightly clustered flowers nestled close to the ground. The flowers are bell-shaped and lilac to violet in color. These are ideal perennials for rock gardens and containers. They thrive in a sunny spot, with well drained soil and moderate to regular summer watering. They are far more reliable near the coast than in the hot-summer interior. Hardy to 0oF or less.

graminifolius. A tidy hummock with narrow, greyish green to dark green leaves. In early summer it bears ball-like clusters of purple bells, each a little under 1" long, on 3” stems. Flowering time is late spring and much of the summer.
