FRANKLINIA alatamaha. Formerly Georgia (apparently extinct in the wild). A deciduous tree allied to Camellia, growing up to 30’ tall but easily controllable by pruning. It has attractive narrow leaves, about 6" long in this selection, coloring beautifully in the fall even in mild climates. Three-inch white, round-petalled blossoms with golden centers grace an established plant in late summer and early autumn. Sun near the coast, light shade inland, well drained, acid soil, regular watering. Hardy to 0oF or below.
