GLOBULARIA. Europe, especially the Mediterranean region. An odd group of herbaceous perennials and small shrubs in their own, distinct family. Most are dense and neat, with growth in either rosettes or leafy stems and smooth, undivided leaves. Their small, irregular flowers are borne in tight heads somewhat resembling those of the scabiosas. The following thrive in sun or light shade, with well drained soil and moderate to occasional watering. Hardiness varies.

cordifolia. A beautiful low hummock or mat, with dark green leaves, about 1" long and roughly spoon-shape in outline. In late spring and summer it bears many small lavender blue heads, elevated above the foliage on 2-4" stalks. Probably hardy to 10oF or less.

x indubia. A round to mounding shrub, eventually 2-3’ tall and 3-5’ broad. It has shiny, leathery, broadly oval leaves and bears a lengthy succession of lavender flower heads in late summer and fall. An ideal plant for exposed banks. 15oF or less.
