IOCHROMA. Central and South America. Lush, evergreen shrubs closely related to and resembling Cestrum. They have rather stout stems and large dark green, oval leaves. The plants make a lavish display of tubular blossoms in pendant clusters during the summer months. Their main drawback is tenderness to cold, although even our plants in containers have recovered nicely after a freeze of about 20oF. Sun or light shade, most (preferably rich) soils, moderate to regular watering.

cyaneum. This is the best known of the lot. Most plants grow about 8’ tall, with large rather dull-surfaced leaves and 2" blossoms. Most cultivars have self-explanatory names based on flower color. ‘Indigo’, ‘Royal Blue’,‘Sky Blue’ (a bit more lavender than its namesake) and ‘Burgundy’ are good examples.

fuchsioides. A little smaller than the last, with brighter green, shinier leaves. It has beautiful scarlet blossoms.
