KNAUTIA macedonica. Eastern Europe. An interesting flowering perennial related to and resembling Scabiosa. It makes dense, slowly expanding clumps, with crowns of dark green, dissected leaves. From these crowns, in summer and fall, rise branched 2’ flower stems, with many tight flower heads opening over many weeks. Their colors range from white to pink, purple and maroon. This is an attractive, easily grown plant for meadows, borders and banks. It thrives in full sun and most soils, with moderate watering. Hardy to around 0oF.
