MELAMPODIUM leucanthum. Blackfoot daisy. American Southwest. This is one of many beautiful southwestern perennials, long overlooked in California but finally gaining notice. It produces many slender 8-12" stems from the base. These are lined by narrow grey-hairy leaves. For much of the summer and fall, it is covered by white 1" daisies with dark centers. Cutting them back after each wave promotes further flowering. When plants succumb to particularly wet winters, new ones are easily restarted from the abundant seeds. A fine plant for larger rock gardens, banks and sunny borders. Well drained soil, moderate to occasional watering. Hardy to 0oF or less.
