OMPHALODES cappadocica. Asia Minor. This little forget-me-not has become one of the essential features of a shade garden. It forms compact clumps, eventually 1' or more broad, traveling by short underground rhizomes. Each shoot bears several narrowly heart shaped, satiny leaves, the blade and stalk each 2-3" long. Though it is listed as summer blooming, our plants have put on a nearly continuous display of small bright blue blossoms in airy sprays. Starry Eyes is a more recent introduction, similar overall to the typical form. However, the flowers are neatly outlined in white (personally, I prefer the uncluttered contrast of the original). These are really first-rate plants for shady spots, thriving in most soils with moderate watering. Hardy to 10oF or less.
