PODOCARPUS. A large group of conifers, mostly of tropical and sub-tropical regions, which range in habit from huge trees to nearly matting shrubs. We grow two strikingly different selections. Sun or light shade near the coast, part shade inland, reasonably well drained soil, moderate watering. Hardiness varies.
henkelii. This is a straight, sturdy tree of slow to moderate growth, possibly fairly large after many years. It has upsweeping branches symmetrically arranged around the trunk. The narrow, drooping 6" leaves are bright bluish green in color, lighter in new growth. It is a fine tree for large containers, as well as for the open ground. Probably hardy to 15oF.
