SCHIZOSTYLIS coccinea. South Africa. An evergreen relative of Gladiolus, producing many erect shoots from a branched underground rhizome. The flattened, narrow leaves rise about 1’ and are exceeded in fall by spikes of beautiful 2-3" lily-like blossoms colored bright red to pink and white. ‘Oregon Sunset’ is a recent introduction with large coral-red flowers. Sun or part shade, reasonably well drained soil, moderate watering. Hardy to 5-10oF.
