SWAINSONA. Australia and New Zealand. A genus of annual, perennial and shrubby peas, some of them quite showy. They have leafy stems, the leaves divided feather-like into several pairs of usually narrow leaflets. The flowers are carried in clusters which emerge from the leaf axils. They generally resemble the sweet peas (Lathyrus) in form. The following thrive in sun or light shade and well drained soil, with moderate watering. One has recovered from bouts of less than 20oF., but they should be protected where temperatures may fall below 25o.

Lush, finely textured leaves are made up of many small, bright green leaflets. During the summer months it bears sprays of 1" blossoms. These are pink to red in the typical form. Our offering is a lovelythough unnamedwhite flowered selection from the U.C. Santa Cruz Arboretum.
