WAHLENBERGIA congesta. New Zealand. A perennial ally of the campanulas, forming dense, ground-hugging mats. The shoots are quite short, with crowded, shiny ½-1" leaves. Light blue bell-shaped flowers, each about 1/3" long, are held above the foliage on individual stalks in summer. This is a pretty plant for rock gardens and small-scale ground cover, thriving in sun near the coast, light shade inland, with well drained soil and constant moisture. It is hardy to 20oF. or less.
