ANEMOPSIS californica. Yerba mansa. I first saw this plant blooming in a gigantic patch in a coastal marsh on Santa Cruz Island. The impression was that of a carpet of white anemones. It forms crowns of fleshy, narrowly oval leaves, each several inches long. Rhizomes radiating from each crown quickly form dense colonies. White blossoms 2" or more broad are carried on individual stems above the foliage in summer. Sun or light shade, most soils, regular watering. Hardy to 15oF or less.
