ARUNDO donax Versicolor. Giant reed. Southern Europe (widely naturalized elsewhere). A giant (up to 20') grass resembling a thick-stemmed bamboo. It forms large, dense thickets from underground rhizomes. The thick, semi-woody stems are neatly lined with broad, tapered leaves, 1' or more long, striped and margined with creamy yellow. It may be used like the running bamboos, for screens, windbreaks and other plantings. Sun or light shade, most soils, abundant moisture. Hardy to 0oF or below.
