URGINEA maritima. Sea Onion. Mediterranean region to South Africa. A bulbous perennial, bold in appearance and easy to grow. The bulbs may reach 8" in diameter and form impressive clumps, usually perched on the ground rather than buried like most bulbs. Each produces a rosette of broad 1-2', blue green leaves in early spring. These disappear in summer and are followed by naked 2-4' stalks packed with star shaped white blossoms. A striking plant for open, sunny spots in the garden, and for large containers. Sun, well drained soil, summer drought. Hardy to around 15oF.
