Sierra Nevada form of wild ginger spreads to form a wide patch in shade. Heart shaped leaves are dark green; new growth and stems are lightly furred. Reddish brown flowers lack the long tails of the coastal wild ginger; flowers are carried at ground level and are curious rather than showy.
