Spreading forms of red fescue are often used as lawn grass. California has many clumping forms of red fescue as well. Many of ours are mop-like in habit, with limp, narrow, dark green leaves. This selection is distinguished by relatively short, sturdy stems and leaves but even more by its chalky blue color and its habit of forming undulating hummocks in the landscape. It should also be one of the more shade- and water-tolerant of the fescues.
